Welcome to the ICAST Press Room

The ICAST Press Room is a valuable resource for exhibitors as well as Media-Editorial badge holders. Each year hundreds of outdoor media representatives attend ICAST to report on the show and the new products that are unveiled at the world's largest sportfishing trade show.

The ICAST Press Room is reserved for use by members of the media where they can conduct interviews, pick up press packets from exhibiting companies and use the free WiFi to write and submit stories about the show.

Obtaining Media Credentials

Make plans today to attend ICAST 2014 being held July 15-18, 2014 at the Orange County Convention Center in Oralando, Fla.

Before you register in the Media-Editorial category, please read the ICAST Media Credentials Guidelines. All first time Media-Editorial attendees must submit a Media Credentials Guidelines form. If you attended ICAST 2013 with a Media-Editorial badge, submitted a Media Credentials Request form and will be attending ICAST 2014 in the same role for the same company, you can register in the Media-Editorial category without submitting a Media Credentials Request form.

For registration purposes, media representatives attending ICAST in order to write about the show, products and other ICAST-related events, are considered Media–Editorial. Registration for Media-Editorial representatives is free. All Media-Editorial registrants are subject to verification by ASA staff.

If a media representative is from a media source (newspaper, magazine, broadcast, dot.com) but is in advertising sales, then he or she falls under the Media–Sales category and must register in that category and pay the registration fee in order to attend ICAST.

If you have a question about the category in which you should register or for more information, please contact Communications Director Mary Jane Williamson, 703-519-9691, x227.

Exhibitor Press Room Guidelines

The ICAST Press Room is another way for exhibitors to get the word out about their products and services. Exhibitors are encouraged to place product information and press kits in the Press Room for media.

If you need assistance regarding press outreach, please contact Communications Director Mary Jane Williamson, (703) 519-9691, x227.

General Guidelines

  • Only ICAST exhibitors and American Sportfishing Association members can place materials in the press room.
  • ICAST sponsors will receive prominent reserved bin space, signage and other special visibility in the Press Room and in other ICAST promotions.
  • Bins are allotted on a first-come, first-served basis. Each exhibitor is allowed one bin.
  • Exhibitors are responsible for keeping their bins stocked throughout the show, although ASA staff will certainly help as much as possible.
  • Press kits, catalogs and other materials may also be distributed in exhibiting companies’ booths, but not in the aisles on the show floor or other common areas.
  • Because of agreements with our host hotels, ASA must give prior approval for show daily-type publications or other promotional materials intended for distribution at the hotels.
  • ASA staff reserves the right to move or remove materials that do not comply with any of these guidelines.

Press Room Bulletin Board

Exhibitors planning press conferences, product demonstrations, celebrity guest appearances or any other special events or booth attractions may place posters, notices or announcements on the ICAST Press Room Bulletin Board. Please limit the size to 8.5” x 11”.

Press Conference Room

If you need to arrange for a press conference room, please send an email to ICAST@asafishng.org.

Delivering Materials

Materials MUST be hand delivered to the ICAST Press Room located on the show floor adjacent to the New Product Showcase between noon and 5:00 p.m. on, Tuesday, July 9, 2013. We recommend providing 100-200 units of material for the ICAST Press Room. Limited storage space is available beneath each bin.

JL Marine Systems, Inc. - Power-Pole Micro Anchor
Media Contact: Media Contact: Rober Shamblin robert@power-pole.com

This all new, all-electric wonder is the first of it's kind - a super-compact powerhouse that was built for the ultimate shallow water fishing experience. Small-craft captains control the drift by pinning in an instant. It's a 3-step cinch: raise the Spike, drift, then push a button to stop and cast much quicker. So, when you find the fish, you can lock down on the spot, in less than 5 seconds flat. You fish your way - cast and catch on a whim -whether you're in a fresh water bayou or a salt mud flat. And, with the Power-Pole's signature hold, no matter how fast the wind and the water are moving, you won't budge. And its wireless remote technology will change the way you fish.

Co-locating ICAST and the International Fly Tackle Dealer Show
In 2013 ICAST and the International Fly Tackle Dealer show (IFTD), the fly tackle-specific show produced by the American Fly Fishing Trade Association (AFFTA), were co-located in the Las Vegas Convention Center.

“The energy and excitement generated during this year’s show was felt by everyone,” said ASA President and CEO Mike Nussman. “ICAST is our industry trade show. It’s very important to us that we create the show that the industry wants. The decision by the boards of directors of ASA and the American Fly Fishing Trade Association to co-locate ICAST and the International Fly Tackle Dealer show (IFTD) is a reflection of that. Our commitment to our member exhibitors, media and all show attendees is to listen and improve the trade show in any and every way we can.”

The New Product Showcase "Best of Show" Awards
Making up a special section of the 400,000-square-foot show floor, the ICAST New Product Showcase provides unique visibility for the latest innovations in sportfishing gear and accessories. The submitted products compete in the “Best of Show” competition where buyers and media members judge each new product.

This year the JL Marine Systems' Power-Pole Micro Anchor was voted by buyers and media as the best product in both the Boating Accessory category and the overall “Best of Show.”

The ICAST 2013 “Best of Show” awards were presented on Wednesday, July 10, during the Chairman’s Industry Awards Reception, sponsored by Rapala, at the Las Vegas Convention Center. As a special treat, National Baseball Hall of Fame member Johnny Bench, this year's State of the Industry Breakfast keynote speaker, presented the awards.

Best Saltwater Reel

Shimano American Corporation - Stella SW 30000
Media Contact: John Mazurkiewicz jpmazurk@ameritech.net

How did we make Stella even better? We started with adding total rigidity to the entire concept of the reel. The new Stella SW features X-Rigid Bail, X-Rigid Rotor, and X-Rigid Handle, making it the most rigid reel ever produced. Next we added in X-Ship for increased G ear Power and Durability and finally we added X-Shield and X-Protect to keep everything inside nice and dry which increases the reels total performance. Now offering the 30000 size, in addition to the 5000- 20000 models, so that the all-new Stella SW will catch just about everything that swims.

Best Soft Lure

Lunkerhunt - Lunker Frog
Media Contact: David MacDonald david@lunkerhunt.com

The Lunkerhunt Lunker Frog features an amazing swimming leg design that extends and retracts during retrieve for an astonishingly true-to-life presentation. When paused, the Lunkerhunt Lunker Frog rests at an advantageous 45-degree angle, which gives it a natural look and also results in higher hook-up percentages. The Lunkerhunt Lunker Frog is designed with a soft-body that collapses easily upon attack and quickly exposes its razor-sharp double frog hook. Available in some of the most vivid frog colors on the market, the Lunkerhunt Lunker Frog is sure to generate explosive blow-ups wherever it’s fished – and that’s no bullfrog.

Best Giftware

Rapala - Original Floating Bottle Opener
Media Contact: Kelly Brockpahler kbrockpahler@rapalausa.com

Why only use a Rapala when on the water? We have taken the same fish-appealing body of our Original Floating lure and turned it into your new favorite bottle opener. When cooking up the day's catch, make this the Rapala that you reach for once you hit shore.

Best Freshwater Rod

G. Loomis, Inc. - NRX Umbrella Rig
Media Contact: John Mazurkiewicz jpmazurk@ameritech.net

The most difficult thing about fishing this rig is the cast. It 's a bit like casting a brush pile. We designed this rod with these challenges in mind. The tip is soft enough to load, yet stiff enough to prevent overruns. NRX makes it insanely light with sensitivity off the charts, and that, along with braided line allows you to feel every nuance of the rig and how the baits are swimming. It’s surprisingly powerful considering the light weight and handles big fish with ease.

Best Freshwater Reel

Shimano American Corporation - CHRONARCH C14+
Media Contact: John Mazurkiewicz jpmazurk@ameritech.net

Everybody wants compact and lightweight in a low profile Baitcast reel. The CH-CH4+ took that simple idea a step further by increasing the total fishing performance. The all new SVS Infinity Braking System takes Shimano's Variable Braking System to a new level. The SVS Infinity Braking System offers VBS with an external adjustment so you can adjust quickly to keep you fishing. We also added X-Ship which increases Gear Durability and increases your RPM's during freespool.

Best Fly Rod

G. Loomis, Inc. - PRO4x
Media Contact: John Mazurkiewicz jpmazurk@ameritech.net

An excellent light-duty switch rod for fishing smaller water, it will handle a 350-grain Skagit with floating or sink tips. At 1 0'6", it provides excellent mending qualities. It will help you cover a lot of water and is a wonderful choice to protect long leaders for spooky summer-run steelhead when the water is low and clear. It doubles nicely for big river trout or s mall stream silvers and chums whether you're in Alaska or on the Northwest coast. A great skinny water switch rod.

Best Fly Reel

Beam Outdoors - Elite 21 Reel
Media Contact: Eric Wolfe eric@beamoutdoors.com

The Elite 21 reel was originally designed to be used for ice fishing, but was soon found to be in high demand among fly fishermen that were seeking quality and performance. The Elite 21 is 65mm and has a gear ratio of 2.1:1. Gear ratios and machined quality make the reel so different and unique. Geared reels makes it much easier and quicker to reel in slack line thus creating less fatigue on the angler.

DOWNLOAD GUIDELINES AND PRESS CREDENTIALS REQUEST FORM ICAST 2013 2013 Guidelines and Form for Obtaining Press Credentials

The Press Room is a valuable resource for the hundreds of media representatives who attend ICAST. The Press Room provides a place to:

• Conduct interviews

• Find information about exhibitors and their products

• File stories through free Wi-Fi

• Network with colleagues

• Ask questions about the American Sportfishing Association and ICAST

General Media and Press Room Guidelines

In order to help ensure that media representatives have a productive and enjoyable experience at ICAST, here are some general guidelines for media regarding the Press Room:

  • The use of Press Room resources is for Media-Editorial badge holders only. Exhibitors are permitted in the Press Room to drop of media kits and other materials. Other attendees may accompany Media-Editorial representatives to the Press Room for interviews and business-related activities.

  • ICAST attendees with Media-Editorial badges are free to use the resources in the Press Room. All other attendees are asked to use the Cyber Lounge or other convention center resources for computer and Internet use.

  • Media-Editorial representatives may use the interview areas on a first-come, first-served basis. Any banners, props, backgrounds, logos or signage must be removed at the conclusion of the interview(s).

  • Media-Editorial representatives who are also ASA members (non-exhibiting members) who wish to place magazines or other informational materials in the Press Room may do so as space allows. Bins are allotted on a first-come, first-served basis (one bin per company) with premium space reserved for ICAST sponsors, exhibitors and ASA members.

  • Only credentialed photographers and videographers with Media-Editorial badges are permitted to film during the show. Photographers and videographers are required to ask permission before filming and must refrain from filming those who do not grant permission.

  • Photography and videography are not permitted on the general show floor. All photography and videography must take place in designated areas or within an exhibitor’s booth. The exhibitor’s permission is required.

  • Because of agreements with our host hotels, ASA must give prior approval for show daily-type publications or other promotional materials intended for distribution at the hotels. ASA staff reserves the right to move or remove materials that are in breach of these guidelines.

Welcome ICAST Attendees

Only at ICAST can you visit hundreds of manufacturers and evaluate thousands of products all under one roof.

Top Five Reasons to Attend

New Product Showcase - The New Product Showcase offers exhibitors and buyers a special opportunity to debut and preview hundreds of the next season's innovations in fishing gear and accessories. Buyers and Media-editorial badge holders have the opportunity to evaluate each new product and vote for the prestigious "Best of Show" awards in 22 product categories.

View All Major Product Lines at ICAST - Want to stay ahead of the game? ICAST is the only trade show where major manufacturers display their entire product lines.

ICAST-only Specials - ICAST show specials offer buyers strong incentives to save money by striking deals at the show. In 2012, nearly a third of all ICAST exhibitors offered show specials providing high and low rollers significant product discounts.

Buyer Raffles - Each time an order is placed with an exhibitor, a buyer increases his or her odds of winning the ICAST Buyer Raffle. Buyers can win cash prizes or one lucky buyer will win the jackpot, a trip for two to Crocodile Bay Resort in Costa Rica.

Networking Opportunities - Business still revolves around face-to-face meetings. There's no place like ICAST to connect with industry leaders and build or maintain relationships with people from around the globe.
