More than 500 people attended the ICAST 2011 Industry Breakfast that kicks of the official opening of the show. ASA President and CEO Mike Nussman; ASA Board of Directors Chairman and Frabill, Inc CEO Jeff Marble; Recreational Boating & Fishing Foundation President Frank Peterson; and global economic and political expert Michael Colopy outlined the state of the industry.
"For 78 years ASA has been watching out for our best interests," said Marble. "This is our trade association, directed by us. It's up to us to be vigilant, united and mobilized in identifying and combating efforts that jeopardize recreational fishing and our industry. An informed and active ASA membership gives us our best chance to meet the challenges ahead. Your attendance at ICAST and this breakfast demonstrates that you are interested in what is happening at ASA and the industry."
Nussman told the breakfast attendees, “This year I kept thinking back to past Summit speaker David Martin. You remember Mr. Martin headed the firm that created the “Virginia is for Lovers” campaign. At our business meeting several years ago, I listened as David talked about branding. He used the shortest, clearest definition of brand that I had ever heard and I’ve remembered it ever since.
He said that a “brand” is “an expectation of performance.” So that got me thinking….what does the ASA brand stand for? What is your expectation of our performance? Certainly, you have an expectation that your association will look out for your best business interests. That ASA will be there to help ensure that there are healthy fish and clean waters, places to fish and people who want to enjoy the sport.
You have an expectation that we will provide information and opportunities that help you manage and grow your business. You have an expectation that we are clearly communicating the importance of being an ASA member and extending that invitation to everyone in the industry."
Additionally, Nussman recognized ICAST Director Maria del Valle Hamilton, who has decided to move on from ASA after 17 years of service.>
Michael Colopy, a world-recognized expert on global trade, spoke extensively on the economic climate of China.

Press Conference Room and Online and Onsite Press Room
Hundreds of members of the media attend ICAST every year. There are three ways to take advantage of this opportunity to get your product information in front of the media. Host a press conference to get the word out about your company and/or products. Place your press materials in the onsite Press Room in the bins provided for that purpose. Take advantage of the online Press Room in advance of the show. This document contains information about the services offered in the Press Room, guidelines and a request form for the Press Conference Room.
Meeting Room Request Form
As an exhibitor, you are entitled to use private rooms to meet with clients and colleagues. Meeting rooms are very limited and are assigned on a first-come, first-served basis.
Show Specials and Buyer Raffles
If you want to offer incentives to buyers at ICAST, then you should participate in our Show Specials and Buyer Raffles. This document includes information on both as well as the entry forms you need to fill out in order to participate.
Casting Pond and Lure Tank
Exhibitors have the opportunity to demonstrate their products in the ICAST Casting Pond and Lure Tank. The Casting Pond and Lure Tank offer a great chance to show how your product works to attendees. This document contains the Casting Pond and Lure Tank reservation forms.
Free Promotional Materials
Buyers come to see you. Let them know you will be at ICAST and ready for business. The ICAST team has many free promotional materials available for you to promote your presence at ICAST.
All ICAST exhibitors are invited to submit ICAST-related news items for posting in the online ICAST Press Room prior to the show. Check back often for new releases and other ICAST information.
Please contact Communications Associate Joe George, (703) 519-9691, x222, for more details. Press releases are subject to the ICAST team’s review for suitability.

Making up a special section of ICAST’s show floor, the New Product Showcase gives the industry’s latest innovations special visibility during the show.
The single most important feature for ICAST exhibitors and attendees alike is the New Product Showcase. Sponsored by Fishing Tackle Retailer, the New Product Showcase embodies the sportfishing industry's innovative and entrepreneurial spirit and rewards that ingenuity through the "Best of Show" new product awards competition. The products, making their marketplace debut, vied for “Best of Show” honors in 21 individual categories as well as the coveted overall "Best of Show" award. Buyers and media representatives judged the products based on their level of innovation, execution, workmanship and practicality.
See below for the list of winners and categories. Please click on each photo for more information about the product and a company contact. All product descriptions were provided by the product manufacturer to accompany their entries into the ICAST 2011 New Product Showcase.

The ICAST Press Room is reserved for use by members of the media where they can conduct interviews, pick up press packets from exhibiting companies and use the free WiFi to write and submit stories about the show.

Only registered buyers and individuals with Media-Editorial badges are eligible to vote in the New Product Showcase and only one ballot per buying entity or media outlet is permitted. Exhibitors are not permitted in the Showcase during the voting period. The product with the most votes in each category is awarded "Best of Show" for that category and the product with the most votes overall wins the coveted ICAST 2012 "Best of Show" honors.
To meet the needs of buyers and exhibitors, this year's New Product Showcase competition includes awards in a record 21 product categories, featuring new categories for fly fishing products and an expanded boating category, as well as the overall "Best of Show" award.
Voting begins on Tuesday, July 10, at 5:00 p.m. during the New Product Showcase Preview Reception and ends at 3:00 p.m. on Wednesday, July 11. Buyers and media who vote have a chance to win one of three drawings for a $500 cash prize.
